COVID-19 Vaccines

March 2021

We are one year into the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the beginning, we have been waiting for things to go back to normal. World health leaders have been trying to figure out ways to stop the spread and slow transmission so that we can go back to restaurants, shopping malls, seeing friends, and every other luxury that used to be our norm. One such hope has been the development of a vaccine.

Based on a combination of scientific innovation and research on similar viruses, scientists have been able to produce a safe and effective vaccine in such a short period of time. Even though they were quickly developed, all of the vaccines have been thoroughly vetted and tested to ensure public safety and hopefully a quicker end to this pandemic.

Currently in Canada, we have four Health Canada approved vaccines. These are the Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. The efficacy does range between the different vaccine options, but all of them have been proven to cut down the risk of significant symptoms, complications, and death. The vaccines even protect against the different variant strains that are now emerging. While there may be some hesitancy with getting a vaccine, it is a safe and easy way to protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19.

In the meantime, everyone must continue to do their part to prevent the spread. Things such as wearing a mask, washing your hands, and social distancing will all make the difference in containing the spread until everyone can get their vaccines. Our staff have all received the Pfizer vaccine and we are ready to assist with all your eye care needs!
